Be Still and Know ...

Be still and know ...
The Power of the Silence
In the subtle markings
Of a sacred river stone

Be still and know ...
The symphonic sounds of Silence
In sweet bird songs, lapping river banks,
The call of majestic trees

Be still and know ...
The energy of the Silence
In the quiet vibrations of creation
As the earth moves softly under foot

Be still and know ...
The fragrance of the Silence
Brought as gift to the senses
By gushing, generous, playful wind

Be still and know ...
The sacredness of the Silence
In a candle's flicker, an empty bowl,
Works of art, respected space

Be still and know ...
The People of the Silence ~
Heart-connected, Love-inspired ~
Souls enmeshed on the journey

Be still and know ...
The pathway of the Silence ~
Find the secret doorways
Hiding treasures within the depths

Be still and know ...
The intimate touch of Silence ~
Warm kisses of sunshine,
The hug of grass, winks of butterflies

Be still and know ...
The Source of Silence ~
Oh, Divine Spirit!
Radiate Your Silent Light
Throughout my innermost Being!

Be still and know ...
Be still and know the Silence ...
Be still ...
Be.

  1. As one who often finds the Holy One in the silence of the woods, the ripple of clear water, the call of the loons, sunrises and sunsets I love your poem. It is truly beautiful and meaningful. I am also reminded that when I was so very ill and had just been diagnosed with cancer I did not what to say think or pray. However, all I could think of was the words of the Psalmist "Be still and know that I am God", these words alsone sustained me for several days and then well into the future. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Inspiring photo and your poem is a lovely reminder of how fulfilling silence is. Like your aunt's comments above, when I've experienced deep sorrow or pain it's been both refreshing & comforting simply to sit in the Presence with no words, no prayers, no mantras.

  3. Silence, according some of the wise and enlightened, is the language of God. Thank you, Karen, for sharing so gracefully and poetically some of your experiences of God in and through holy Silence. Our hearts and minds can open a bit wider to the Divine found within the Silence as we read your inspired reflection. I'll keep and read and reflect upon "Be Still and Know..." many times in days to come.
